GHG Emissions

 

In 2017 the energy sector – fuel combustion and fugitive emissions from fuels (excluding transport) accounted for 54% of total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The second largest sector was transport (including international aviation) which accounted for 25% and increased considerably from 15% in 1990.

The EU energy mix in 2017 was made up of petroleum products (36 %), natural gas (23 %), solid fossil fuels (15 %), renewable energy (14 %) and nuclear energy (12 %). 72,2 % of all energy in the EU-28 was produced from coals, crude oil and natural gas, while the RES share accounted for ca. 13,9%, according to Eurostat.
